    Sporticus - Inside Yachting

Posted 18 years 3 months ago
    • Hey guys,

I know, not a lot of creativity, but I just find that I really like the template the way it is.

      Anyway, converted Inside Yachting:

    • Site looks very good. Do you think they will rescue that guy off the coast of Chile?

I have a question, I could be looking over something very simple, but here it goes:

How did you set up the "Velux 5 Oceans" and "Rolex Sydney Hobart" modules?

Are these basic user modules that you created the leader text for and then a "Click Here" link?

What I would really like to be able to do is create modules in the exact same position that the above two modules are in. In each module it would be the first 25 words with a link to the full article. The article would be most recent in the selected category. I am not interested in having to update these modules with the latest story. :)

Do you or anyone else know if this can be done? Am I overlooking a simple solution?

My sporticus install can be found here: www.drretarded.com

Thanks for all of the help.

      Steven,

Those two modules are custom modules with the text typed in the body and a manual "Read More". I too did not want to create a new module for every article, so linked them to the category list page instead. That way, the reader always sees the same thing, but can see the most up to date article.

There is a module "Featured Article" module that you can set up to pull a specific content item, items from a category or section:

      extensions.joomla.org/component/option,c...nk_id,498/Itemid,35/

I was going to use it for my "Featured Regatta" module (highlighted in blue) but couldn't get it to stop putting the heading in H1 (huge!). You may give it a shot. All you have to do to create another one is copy it with a new name.

      Hope this was helpful.

    • Steven,

Where did you get the horizontal login module that is placed in the upper right corner of drretarted.com?

    • Sean,

What module are you using in your "More News" section? Is that the standard module that comes with Joomla! ???

I LOVE the way your events are listed. What module are you using? I'm looking for an event calendar module that will display like yours, allow users to add from the front end and display an abbreviated list for the front page.

      Your site looks great!

Thanks for any info you can provide,
      Andy

      Andy,

The "More News" module is just the "Latest News" module that comes pre-loaded in Joomla! and with its name changed in the Module Manager.

The event calendar is actually an RSS feed from www.regattadates.com .

There are a number of calendar components/modules, but I prefer "Events". There is also a Component "Attend Events" which is an RSVP system that interfaces with "Events". You can see them both used at another site of mine:
      www.inlandempiredslr.org

Hope this was helpful, and thank you for your comments on the site.

      John,

That's kind of personal isn't it? Just kidding :P

A little of both. I enter most of the content, however, I do get most of it from press releases. It makes it easy to just copy and paste into the system.

May I ask why you asked?

      Thanks,

      Sean
