    Asia web site

Posted 18 years 3 months ago
    • Finally the redesign of my web site Asia Observer - http://www.asiaobserver.com - is complete. Asia Observer is a portal to Asia with news, web guide and forums. Now we are also letting members share and vote on Asia articles they have picked up on the web.

The design is based on Versatility II, but with some adjustments here and there.

I am very eager to hear your feedback!

      Cheers,

      John Einar Sandvand

    • Hello John,

      I have bookmarked your site.
Provide us with a lot of news.
      Thank you.

    • Looks great!

Question, what links component are you using? I see that you are able to sort the links by time frame. I have wanted to have a "news share" feature on my website just like this and have been looking for a component that would do it. It looks like you found it.

    • It looks like the bookmarks component but I do not see where you can set the display of the links by votes and time of submission.

    • Kirshan,

Thanks for your comment. I will get the answer for you - just need to consult Rafael in Belgrade, who helped me develop the site. I am more of a content guy than developer myself.

      Cheers,

      John

    • Love the site ... I just became a member and want to do something similar ... with Internet Gazette. Really what I want to do is a sports news site that looks similar, with news items running down the middle, sortable by category (like you have on the side menu) and by rankings, date and time, etc.

Is the bookmark component a plugin that I can get somewhere? Any help will be appreciated.

    • Kirshan,

Rafael in Belgrad has sent me the following answer regarding the bookmarks:

Component used in this case is developed based upon bookmarks comonent by TEG Design. It has been heavily modified and cannot be installed (with all the features) on the way most of the components are installed.

Basically, bookmarks component is used for collection/submission of the links/articles. Display is handled by the module. Module is multifunctional and can display links in many ways (latest, top rated, most hits, etc). It can also display categories of the links. Voting system is built in AJAX and does not require refreshing the whole page after the vote is cast.

As for news categories on the right side, they are not handled by this component - they are content in Joomla database that is fetched by modified Feedgator component, which is automated using cron job.

If there is anything more you want to know, feel free to ask."
