Newbie Seeking Review - Affinity Site

    • I am working on a engine and transmission repair site for a friend and would like some constructive feedback.

      Using
      Affinity Template
      hwd video share on the Gallery Page
      youtube playlist player

      I think that is about it as far as extensions so far. I was using a facebook and twitter widget but it caused the page not to work in IE which is nothing new. What does work in IE. Trying to find a work around that now if anyone knows any thing please let me know.

      Thanks and I would be happy to return the favor and offer a review of your site however I am a novice so I can only offer from a users perspective rather than a developer.

    • Really nice looking site. I like the design and the picture rotator really pops. On your content items, I would get rid of the author and created date stuff. Its a bit superfluous unless you're doing a news or blog site. Under location, I would add a Google Map with directions (something like this: pbc.markgomezdesign.com/services/directi...task=viewmap&mapId=1 ). I used the aicontactsafe component and plugin and a Google map plugin in a content item to get it side by side.
      Anyway, great site for a novice. The look is great, now you've just got the tough job of getting all the content in place. Good luck.

    • Mark thank you so much for taking the time to look at the site and comment. I appreciate your feed back. I am not sure I know how to get rid of the author/date created thing but I will try to figure it out, you are right it doesn't need to be there.

      I LOVE how you did you contact form along side the googlemap that looks fabulous and is exactly what I need for the site. I will install the component and plug ins and see if I can get mine to look as nice as you have yours.

      I do have a TON of content to plug into the site. All in all and I am proud of how the site is coming along and more importantly my friend is pleased. =D

    • To get rid of the author/date stuff go to the article manager and at the top right you should see a parameters button. There you can set the global parameters for content items. You can change parameters on an individual article basis if you want as well.

      The plugin I used for the Google map is here: joomlacode.org/gf/project/mambot_google1/

      I used to div's to get the two plugins to sit next to eachother. If you'd like, I'll send you the code I used to get them that way.

      All in all, I'm really impressed with the look of your site. Nice work.

    • Thank you very much Mark. I would love to have the code to get them side by side that looks really nice.

      Thank you again for responding and for all of the great advice.

    • Here's what I used:
      <div style="width: 45%; float: left;">
      <h3>Address and Phone</h3>
      {aicontactsafeform pf=1|use_css=1}</div>
      <div style="width: 55%; float: right;">
      <h3>Map</h3>
      {mosmap}</div>

      Edit the contact form to include your address and phone number in the Component section of aicontactsafe. I just used the default form, put in my own address and phone and set the contact info to appear on top. The map settings are set from the plugin settings under Google Map. You'll need to geocode your address to get the lat and long.

    • For a newbie certainly a nice job, few observations, i would change

      'welcome to the frontpage' in the top of the browser
      > go to backend, menus, main menu, click on home and change it in the parameters system on the right and change page title

      also i would insert a description and keywords in the global configuration
      now it says:

      <meta name="keywords" content="joomla, Joomla" />
      <meta name="description" content="Joomla! - the dynamic portal engine and content management system" />

      happy new year :D

    • Pimmar excellent suggestions and thank you for telling me where to go to change them that certainly makes it easier for me to do so. I want to do some SEO for the site but first I have to get it finished then I can start to learn how to best optimize Joomla for SEO placement.
