FREELANCE Website - For Freelancers and Buyers - Nexus

Posted 14 years 11 months ago
    • 99Freelance.com is a new freelancing site that is based on the RT Nexus template.
The site is for freelancing or outsourcing programming work to Freelancers. I used lots of customized components, Kunena forum, newsletter, quick FAQ, SEF, etc. Please check it out.

Comments and Suggestions are very much appreciated.

      Thanks.

    • Think it looks absolutely great. Personally, I would push up all of the work boards etc. to closer to the top, and move down some of the marketing, so people can see this is a functional, working site 'above the fold'.

Overall though, very clean and nicely designed - it is very clear how it works and what you need to do....

    • Thanks Emirates. That's a great idea. I will move those modules elsewhere. I appreciate your comments. :D

No offense to 99Freelance but you are very good at extracting relevant info from a jumbled presentation. I would have clicked away in a heartbeat if I were interested buying or selling services, truth be told. Doesn't hold a candle to sites such as eLance etc. Need to offer more or have some kind of unique value.

One thing, which could well be an unfortunate coincidence, is the name. It's far too close to 99design.com. If gives the impression that 99freelance.com is stealing brand equity. And, as a graphic designer myself, there is a very negative association with 99design. Many graphic designers adopt the no-spec ethic and even though 99freelance may not be outsourcing there's a strong association none the less. Just look at the odds so far... two responses from what I imagine includes your target market, folks who may be members of this site, and one is negative, by merely your choice of name. I'd advise changing it. And it's not like you have much invested in a logo. The type styling, which I can only characterize as frivolous, offers me the impression of frivolity. I look for frivolity in toys and such, but not business.

      Rant over. :P

    • Thanks Sheldon for your comments. That was more than what I was hoping for. I am sure it's not up to par with other sites owned by established companies and have been around for a long time. Your point is understood.

As a self-taught hobbyist site developer, I am just happy that I was able to finally put together a functional site, thanks to RT and Nexus. Besides the business issues that you mentioned, please share your comments about how I can improve the layout, color choices, fonts, etc. :D

    • Sense you can't compete with leaders in the market like eLance you might try focusing on one segment of the market and appealing to that market demographic well.

But first and foremost change the name. You appear to be stealing brand equity from 99design which makes you seem unethical right from the start. Doesn't matter if it was a coincidence or not, you know of the close association between 99freelance and 99design now. First impressions count.

      Thanks.

Since you asked, the biggest problem with your site design is that roughly 50% of all browser experiences out there can't actually SEE your right side nav menus (without scrolling over). 91% or more won't see the Twitter bird. And don't even get me started with all that doesn't show up vertically for many of your visitors. Of course, this might be a problem with the Gantry framework in general, but I'm not a developer. If you want to see your site the way others view it, use this tool:

    • Thanks for the comments. I will look into renaming the site (suggestions also welcomed) if it seems to bring up anti-feeling against the other site. Also, thanks for the Google tool. Definitely a good point since I did not even realize it. This is still work-in-progress. Much appreciated.

You are most welcome! As for not realizing, I wouldn't have until a few weeks ago. That's when someone here pointed out the Google tool. All in all, you did a much better job designing your site than I ever could. Better than many here, I bet.

    • Thanks Misc...this is why I am so impressed with the RT community. So many experts and so much to learn from. I am also a member of another club, and the help from the RT members is far more and beyond what I receive from over there.

I am making the change as you suggested.
