Update issue

    • When I try to do the update to the template through the Extension Manager / Update function, I get the following message:

      -1 - An error has occurred.

      with the note "Copy failed"

      What am I doing wrong?

    • sounds like permissions problems. I would check the System Tools -> System Information -> Directory Permissions to make sure all is writeable by the system.

    • I'm seeing this same problem on sites hosted by different companies.
      All directories are showing as writeable in green.

      Mine also has at the bottom of the admin page MN V2.3, but in the MC teplate page it says V2.1 upgrade to V2.4 now...

    • I should mention that the site I'm currently trying to update is going from v2.1 to v2.4...

      At first I tried to update using the "Install New Version" button in the template itself; that took me to the Joomla Extensions Manager. So I select the template to be updated, click "Update" and get the error.

      I would assume the same thing would happen if I went directly to the Extension Manager first.

    • Not necessarily, updating manually via the extensions manager should always work 100% of the time.

    • Well, that's the point. When I clicked on the link in the template, it took me TO the extensions manager. When I then tried to update, that's when it gave the error.

      The KOW (Key Operative Word) there is SHOULD work. That doesn't mean it "does" work. :cheesy:

      Weighing in here... and glad to know I'm not crazy. I have been struggling with same issues for some time now. And because of the repeated pasting by a particular party, I shall be sure to address in minute detail what I have done/not done about this to avoid the normal Q & A that preceeds a qualified answer. In short, "You are getting all my notes, teacher. I can't figure this one out. Maybe you can find the flaw in my formula (or maybe yours)"

      For the moment, you may rightly assume that I have taken every step imagineable (including searching the forums) to insure I have properly installed Joomla, Mission Control, Akeeba and templates. You may rightly assume that every one of my extensions is current with the exception of Mission Control. You may rightly assume I have tested, retested each extension and even tried with nothing but bare bones. This error is easily reproduced.

      This process is for a clean, barebones, no sample data install.
      I might add I have done this for each individual template mentioned and more than once for each.
        One by one, I load RT extensions UP TO Mission Control (don't do that yet) and THEN the template. I test site repeatedly throughout loading of each extension. Runs fine.

        Next, load Mission Control. Depending upon the template (relevance mentioned later), it fails.

        Next, I start over and this time, load Mission Control BEFORE the template. No difference.

      My Summary:

      The problem is with the "upgrade" process on Mission Control not removing the proper files upon upgrade. Somehow, those duplicate files are screwing up everything. (I mean, really, how HARD is it to upgrade Mission Control? My answer is, Not. So I am pretty sure this is not my handiwork.

      Caveat: I also realize I could very well be wrong, so don't slap me quite yet.) :cheesy:

      I have been having the same problem since version 2.3 was released. I have several sites both on and offline at the moment involving several hosts and several Admins. The thing is, I didn't set up every one of the sites and am not involved in the routine maintenance of several, so I can't speak to every detail. But I do know that we all currently share the same problem.

      I'll give an example of the behavior (currently all browsers, but I use Firefox) and then what I think "may" be a place to look for answers.

      Here's an example:
        Pre-Update: Go to Admin>Extension Manager>Manage

        Look at Mission Control files. Everything looks good.

        Install update: You can do this either through Joomla Extension Manager Auto Update, or by "Install from File (or Directory). My point is, it happens every time, even though the installation "seems" to go smoothly.

        Post-Update version (2.3 and above): Go to Admin>Extension Manager>Manage

        When you look at Mission Control entries, they are all there... for EACH version. :shock:

      I tried uninstalling the older version and it screws up the whole works. In fact, I've had to reinstall from backups to make it go away. (Bless Nick at Akeeba!)

      For the moment, I am sticking with Version 2.2. This issue was discussed in several forums prior to release of 2.3.

      For me, it seems to happen only when using the following templates. (Even when offline and loading from a newly downloaded file from RT to my computer. So I must humbly and ever so respectfully say, "No Big Daddy, it doesn't work 100% of the time."

      Please realize I realize that there are a zillion different reasons based on configurations why that might happen. But let's just assume for the moment, until this problem, WE haven't screwed up or screwed WITH anything unusual lately so that is not the likely source since many are experiencing same behaviors.) :o
        Ionosphere (the worst on this issue)
        Camber
        Crystalline

      In retrospect and after full review of all my notes, I thought to myself, what is different about these templates? I'm thinking Color Chooser and transparency controls are key to this because they go haywire after 2.3 is installed. By haywire, I mean the Style Controls move at a snail's pace from then on and sometimes the changes save, sometimes they don't. Sometimes you can't even get to the controls. They seize. (And yes, I've checked with Caches/Zipper/Session Controls On/Off/Clear, site up/site offline, in each situation. That doesn't seem to affect this.)

      When Color Chooser is enabled on the front end, it doesn't save, or the site locks up when you try to use it. In each situation there were no custom controls, css changes or mods to the templates or any other files. Simple, standard installs.

      I am thinking this is co-relational between Gantry, Mission Control and the template overlay functions. It could be tied to to extended Gantry Control Selectors (maybe having Color Selectors on front end and more transparencies than the average template??).

      This is what works for me at the moment until we get a fix.
        If using version prior to 2.3, uninstall it.
        Triple check to make SURE it is gone from the Extension Manager before you install the newer version.
        Clear all caches.
        If you are online, Log off site.
        If you are offline, Log off site.
        Exit browser.
        Clear all broswer caches.
        Clear all system caches.
        (I even do a system clean and reboot the darn computer.)
        THEN... go back and install the latest version of Mission Control.
        Check extension manager again.
        If there are no duplicate files, everything "should" work. This is where you say thank you ____ (whether you worship God, your Momma, Andy Miller or your hamster, say thank you to SOMEone, even if yourself... and then move on.)
        If there are duplicate extension entries, attempt to uninstall (good luck) then come back here and we'll try again.

        The "real" best solution "could be" to just not install Mission Control until this bug is worked out.

      It takes less than 5 minutes to customize a new Mission Control install and a heck of a lot longer to troubleshoot.

      I am quite anxious to hear some feed back on this. No doubt I've probably been as clear as mud expressing this, but I do know something "ain't right."

      I'm a bit rusty on several things because my Mom died recently. That's why I haven't posted. I figured I wasn't on my game, my concentration sucks, and I have missed some trivial detail that normally comes naturally. In short, my mind has been cluttered and muddled a bit.

      I don't like to bother you guys until I've tried everything to make sure it isn't an operator error. I'm pretty sure I've done that this time.

      If it wasn't clear above (Andy didn't say "how" and you didn't directly say you "did it"), REdownload full file of the correct Mission Control version to your computer.

      Then, go to Site Admin>Extension Manager>Install>Install from File>Browse to Computer File>Click Install.

      Is that what you are doing? If not, try it. If so, you know I had to ask so please don't be offended.

      A good way to make SURE your permissions are correct is to download Akeeba Admin Tools. Killer cool, free, simplicity and a good button to push before you freak out on your site. Often kills the problem before you lose any hair.
