Let me get some design input ideas

    • Okay, I have a client that will likely be asking me to redo this site

      https://www.nationalbirthcertificate.com/divorce_decree.html

I know, I know, you can see why it needs to be redone, huh. ;)

Anyway, I am trying to beat her to the punch. How on earth would you guys go about approaching a redisgn of this site?

What I am looking for, is how can I capture all the information she is requesting from her customers into a Joomla site?

I haven't been presented with this type of site in the past, so it kinda has me scratching my head.

I appreciate all advice and suggestions.

p.s. The outcome of this particular job will likely open up many many doors for me and help get me out of the 9-5 job and into the "I'm the boss" community so many of you enjoy.

      Thanks.

    • If you are just trying to secure the job I would quickly put together a mock up, probably using Bento Box as I think it will fit the style of site you need to build.

I would put the intro text for each form in user1 user2 and user3. Then the form fields below. You may have to widen the site slightly to accommodate the 12 required nav areas.

If your not too clued up on forms look for a form component (not sure if there are any good ones).

Make the header image wider and incorporate the American theme - (but in a nice looking way).

      Don't know if that helps.....

    • From a design point of view there are just too many input fields splattered all over the page. The billing information seems to be splitting the top section and the declaration. The instructions are unclear and need to be stated up front.

Display a simple form to get the Divorce Certificate Holders Info and have the Authorization on the same page.

Put the billing stuff in a 'Checkout' area in its own page.

To capture form based info I use Phil-a-form - http://www.phil-taylor.com/Joomla/Components/Phil-A-Form/

I would question the whole end to end process with your customer.
You can dramatically improve the website with ease, but look at what a user has to do -

Currently it's fill in form, pay online, print form, sign form, fax form, scan driving licence, enlarge driving licence by 200%, print driving licence, fax driving licence . . . and then apparently there is another bill to pay from the state !
      That process seems over complicated.

Is the signature a legal requirement ?
Are there any electronic alternatives ?
Is there a way of removing the requirement for a fax ?
The whole print/sign/fax thing would put me off using a service.

    • That Phil-a-Form looks pretty good. That is kinda what I was hoping someone would be able to throw my way. Excellent idea.

As far as layout, content, etc. The re-designed site would not look as if it got hit by a clusterbomb. It would be clean and organized, with pertinent information displayed.

Fields.....splattered.....RIGHT!?!??!? That is what tells me already that I got the job. I can surely make her happy just by organziing everything and cleaning house.

Great observation. I will be sure to mention this to her and use it to my advantage.

For sure. This is actually how I got started. I saw a site that was garbage. Udea it as an opportunity to get better with Joomla and redesigned it just see see how it would look. When I was done, I sent it to the owner. Now I am one step closer to being self-employed.
