    • I find it to be a ridicuous subject.

Mac vs. PC - I switched to PCs many years ago when Macs ceased to offer the same number of software options. Is mac OS a superior operating system? wtf really cares when they don't have the software to back it up. It's certainly not a cost-justified solution.

Firefox vs. IE - Does it really take a rocket scientist to realize that whoever holds market share has the superior product? Erm... wasn't Netscape superior to IE at one point? whatever happened to it?

png vs jpg & gif - how superior exactly is png when it doesn't work correctly in the most widely used browser on the internet?

Joomla vs Drupal - yeah, drupal is what the "cool kids" are latching onto these days. other than community portals Joomla leaves it in the dust. are we to base what a superior platform is on what the ubernerds say is superior? or do we want to stick to a cms proven time and time again in the commercial arena? personally, $ > leetness. then again I outgrew punk rock back in the 80's.

Ford vs. Chevy - screw you rednecks, audi owns you.

Boxers vs. briefs - if you don't realize what kind of a gimp you look like in briefs no one can help you.

Muffins vs. methamphetamines - only James knows.

AC vs DC (AKA Edison vs Tesla) - oh how so few of you even know the story here.

Poison gas vs Tanks - WWI was the proving ground, you tell me who won.

Elitism vs common sense, reason, and intelligence - if you gotta ask, you'll never know.

the Tucker Torpedo vs. well... other cars - go see the movie and cry "superiority" over a failed venture.

My point is that you can scream at the top of your lungs how superior your choice of "whatever" is but in the long run elitism dies by the wayside and the "oh so common" solution lives on.

    • Ive read a lot of articles of this from unbiased people who have used both for a range of products. The consensus is that they are both as good as each other and both excel in certain areas and fail in others.

      Best bet, have both :)

Not if you don't even know you have a choice. The VAST MAJORITY of computer users don't even know there are other browsers out there other than the one that came with their PC. The Courts should have stopped Microsoft from bundling IE with Windows years ago... only then would market share be a reliable indicator of a superior product.

You've got it the wrong way around. The browser should fit the specification not the other way around. PNG is superior in a number of ways. GIF is limited by it's maximum of 256 colors. JPG is the best choice for photographs while PNG excels with images with text or hard lines. PNG is also the best with handling gradients.

Instead of accepting the first option available... we should always shop around for the superior product. Heck that is how I found RT
      :)

IMO asking around for reviews and opinions on what people have had good experiences with and what they think is superior saves me the effort of trying every product myself.

    • Great stream of consciousness, Stone. You are correct, sir!

I used to be into the 'us vs. them' wars, but I came to the realization that IT'S JUST A TOOL!

      Back at cha, Stone!

Isn't mozilla an opensource branch off of netscape? And isn't firefox made by mozilla? So where is netscape? Right here used by most of us web developers:)

    • I don't care about superior, popular, or anything else.

I want the tool that helps me get the job done correctly and expeditiously.

Besides--if you really need to get a job done you need a pickup and audi doesn't make trucks :P .

Honestly though, I don't think popular is a better criterion than "superior."

The right tool for the right task.

hence the "screw you rednecks" comment ;P

seriously though. my point wasn't that popular is any better than "superiority", just that popular usually wins regardless of any amount of caterwauling by the elitists.

So my pickup beats the audi. No caterwauling here.
