    UPDATE ON WAGE 04/22/07

Posted 17 years 11 months ago
    • I have (somewhat) completed the first phase of the bone-marrow biopsy program and I can report that it was an arduous and painful ordeal. I am glad it is over.... at least for now.

I am a few "stem-cells" short of my goal of 2 million. The doctors expected this due to my two years of chemo. Their strategy now is to allow me to rest for two weeks and then attempt one more harvest. Hopefully, we will then have reached my goal.

Next, is the high-dose chemo therapy to kill the rest of the bone-marrow and any remaining cancer cells. I recently learned that because of this type of chemo and the strength in which it is given, I will loose all my immunities and will have to repeat all my inoculations. Every shot that I have had since I was a baby. My three month old daughter is ahead of me on shots now... :)

After the chemo is finished, I will have no immune system left and all the bone-marrow will be killed. I then will have to be in total-isolation for about 45-days in an air-tight, hepa-filtered, UV lighted room. After just a couple of days, they put the harvested bone-marrow and stem-cells back into my body allow it to recover on its' own.

If there are no complication, I should be allowed to return home by the end of June. Even after i return home, I have to isolate myself from others for about three more months (including family).

Eventually, I will be able to return to a life of normality, but, I am sure it will be a long and hardened road...

Thanks for listening to my rants.. ::)

    • That is some crazy, complicated situation. Think of the positives, who else can say they've lived in a bubble :)

    • You now have an excuse not to get nagged by your wife, bugged by your neighbors or visited by the inlaws for a whole three months!

Some people would pay for that.

On a serious note though, all the best. I can't even begin to understand what it's like, but I know it must be tough.

Take it easy and have a good one.
