Joomla Core SEF to ignore a component?

Hi Guys.
I made my own component for a custom tool we needed.
It works great but goes messy with SEF switched on, is it possible to get the htaccess not to rewrite a certain component?
I know their is 3rd party tools that allow you to have it switched off for certain components but id prefer to stick with core joomla for now...
