Joomla Development Environment on Windows 7

  • Joomla Development Environment on Windows 7

    • I recently received a new Windows 7 laptop at work. I set up a Joomla Development Environment using Wamp Server 2.0i.

I copied my live site over to my laptop and made the necessary configuration changes. My main template is Affinity.

When I bring up the site is has quite a few errors when using the Affinity template, but not with the other standard templates. Of course the template works fine on the live site so I am wondering if this is an issue with Windows 7 or the Wamp Server or both. Additionally I installed the latest version of XAMPP and received the same results so I am leaning towards the issue being Windows 7.

In another effort I did a complete new Joomla install and then installed Affinity brand new as well and still received the same results.

So can some tell me if they have had an issue with getting a Joomla Development Environment up and running on a Windows 7 machine and what adjustments I might have to make.

See below for the errors I am receiving.

      Thanks!
      Paul

    • I do have Akeeba installed including the Admin tools but I have never used it to move a site. Can you point me to some docs that show step by step how to do this?

Also I think this issue is more with the Affinity template (params) since I did a fresh install locally of Joomla and then installed the Affinity template and received the same issue. On a side note I also installed Catalyst and did not have an issue, but Affinity is the template we are working with. I am trying to modify the template on a local dev site and then when finish want to upload just the template back to the live site.

    • I used Akeeba backup to backup and install the site and still received the same results. Any other suggestions? This is a bit frustrating that the problem is only happening with Affinity template (so far) and on Windows 7.

I can successfully backup the site to my home/work computer but its running on Vista.

    • Sorry, at a loss on this one as I don't have the proper environment to test / duplicate.

I've asked some other moderators to take a look.
    • Thanks,

    • When I am in windows, I use Uniform Server and have not encountered problems so far. The best thing is, it is portable. :)

    • Apparently its the newer versions of XXAMP 1.7.3 (php 5.3.1) and WAMP 2.0i (php 5.3.0) are the issue. I was able to locate an older version of WAMP 2.0h (php version 5.2.9-2) and it works. I guess it must be the way the scripts for the template are calling the variables and how they work in PHP 5.3.x. Perhaps the template needs to be updated to guarantee compatiblility in the future.
