Honestly without complete cluelessness can anyone tell me what really makes Firefox so much more spectacular than IE. I knwo from a developers standpoint its got plugins but so does IE so whats the big deal here. I see peopel freaking out all the time about it but no one makes any clear mentions of why it's so superior so for the most part i am led to believe its a bunch of wagon jumpers glorifying something thats pretty much pointless.
Meaning that everyone with windows has IE. Most people use windows except for the seven people that use the other stuff, and the obviously superior Mac ( i actually like macs but they are a bit rediculous, they are the ghetto gold teeth of the computer industry).
So i guess the question is why all the complaints about IE? What's it done to you thats so bad? Personally i think its fine, it does its job and at the end of the day the average computer user doesn't care. So if you optimize for IE only your optimizing for what...90% of computer users. That sounds mildly retarded to be the hillrod that optimizes for Firefox, and ditches the IE people. I have it installed but i always use IE, unless i got something to mess with via CSS. guess im set in my ways or something.

straight out of the box with both of them, no extensions etc.
My first is firefox security! since using firefox I've cut malicious viruses , and especially popups down by 90% and for someone who is plugged into the net and on it 90% of my living life Its an educated fact not a guess!
2 page rendering... Especially in regard to joomla, IE just doesn't have the cross code capabitlity of Firefox. IE and CSS really blow!
3. until the release of IE7 the browser experience, I mean for one the window tabs..took this long for IE to start using them standard.
4. IE hey wait installing it means installing google, yahoo etc etc etc etc as STANDARD! At least with firefox all your installing is a browser not an advertising machine!
5. I use both I have too! and when it comes to catch speeds, and general robustlness firefox just does it better. I can surf faster and without worrys on have 20 pop up windows by surfing to the wrong site.
Im sure there are more benifits with firefox, Oh yeh I can think of one...the instalation size of each, installing IE is like installing photoshop....I mean how big and heavy! (must be all the google and yahoobars!?)
Hey for the record I used IE for a Looong time, thought it was great! then I switched to mac for a while then Linux, but have since come back to a windows OS in doing so I found better ways and one of them was firefox. I actually dread turning on IE the 2-3 times a day I have to to find all the errors that only happen with sites when they are used in IE and different for each version!!!!

IE is full of bugs. Stuff that works fine on every other browser breaks IE.
Plus IE doesn't give you any error messages that help, it just dies with an 'unable to render page' error or some such.
IE is about 3 years at least behind the other major browsers for css compliance, and features. I still have no idea how clear my cache in IE without clearing everything else for example.
IT's slower, less secure, prone to popups.
It isn't just a bunch of people dressing in black, putting on eye makeup and declaring IE 'the establishment'. Personally I admire and respect Billy G for what he did. But very few techy people use IE willingly for good reason.
It's like the difference between a 1980 Toyota Tarago, and a new Bentley. Sure they both get you from A to B. But there is not much apart from that to compare them on.
EDIT: Oh and IE STILL can't handle overflow properly. Other browsers just extend your box a little and adapt, but IE throws everything 400 meters below your page.
There is a reason that all RT templates come with extra CSS to compensate for IE, that a dozen or so different extentions have been made to trick IE into behaving like a real browser. (including one by me lol)
Also check just how many of the support requests on this forum are ' My xxx doesn't work in IE' and compare it to the number that say 'my xxx doesn't work in FF'
I can only remember 1 post where something didn't work in FF but worked in IE. I remember because I was so shocked.
Wow, I guess there really is a reason to declare Firefox a superior browser. I honestly have never heard anything bright mentioned about it until all of these responses. It's usually just a bunch of people banding together to trash IE with ubiquitous statements about how much it sucks compared to Firefox.
I never had an issue because i always just optimized everything for IE, Firefox doesnt seem to be a real competitor in the big picture. In the end I've gotta Thank Andy for keepign that in mind when he makes these templates.
To Andy
>>>Thank you for keeping IE involved with it. I'm sure its a hassle but its needed at this point.
Well now it's time to break down admit defeat and put the Download Firefox button on one of my sites. Have fun guys, and thank you for the great answers. I never looked into after hearing a few rantings and assuming it was a bunch of people bandwagoning for a lame "Uber" cool new fad. Thanks for setting the record straight.
Gerald, I used to be an advocate for everything windows/microsoft. years back I couldn't think of using anything but IE, but as soon as I became a web developer I learnt fast and not because of hyperbile, that firefox was really the better option, and because of merit from really sitting down and making my own conclusions.
I still (we all still) have to use IE simply because of it is the browser most used on the planet and will prob continue to be! but again web standards over the next decade will no doubtly get easier to work with and browsers just may be closer matched in performance and only color and brand will be the 'marketing difference'.
Like you said ..it's needed. so true....unfortunate (lol) but true!

I read somewhere that although the worldwide marketshare for firefox is 15% and IE 78%, here in Oceania (Aus/NZ,Pacific Islands), Firefox commands 27% of the market.
