    Zoo or K2

Posted 14 years 5 months ago
    • Hey all,

I greatly appreciate the input here. I'm in the midst of a project with lots of content that needs tagging and a few other items that these two extensions have. I've been working with K2 for a couple weeks and have found a few modules to display items interestingly enough but there are a few quirky items.

Thought I'd give Zoo a try. Same issues here- I don't want to buy their app bundle until I really know how to use things. I'd like feedback from others who have experience with both. One issue I'm having is finding a module that lists items in a category...just like latest news...not working out for me...

Zoo is going to be another learning curve and I'm not sure I want to spend that time either, unless it's worth it.

      Thanks again!!!

      Tim

    • You can try the free zoo blog-app wich is already good for many things.
One problem is the lack of support in 3rdparty-modules. (rt-modules dont support zoo for example).

Without really having used it (tho I have the app-bundle purchased) I must say Zoo looks very elegant to me. But I cant really give you an advice ...

    • Henning,

Could you say more about your comment: "(rt-modules dont support zoo for example)."

I've no experience with Zoo and little with K2. Are you saying RT templates won't allow a Zoo module to display?

Tim I don't mean to steal your thread. I'm glad you posted. I posted a similar query here as regards to Zoo and K2:

    • Sundog guy,

No thread thievery here- very cool thought. I wasn't sure about that either. I'm currently using a different template that the client liked. Very much wish I could have sold them on one of the RTs with Gantry. I'm not totally sold on YooThemes- for most of my clients, just the overall style- but I'm guessing they play well with Zoo...since they both come from the same organization.

    • No,

RT-templates display Zoo-modules and the Zoo-component itself with no real issues.
Its just that RokStories for example can't display items of the Zoo-apps (like Blog, Cookbook etc)

    • Which is exactly why RT needs to develop there own super awesome CAB! :cheesy:

That aside I have used both K2 and Zoo (paid) for clients (not for myself) and as a developer/designer I can tell you that I prefer Zoo over K2 for flexibility, ease of use, and most importantly the speed at which I can get things done. That being said, K2 is awesome and the guys who have continued to develop it are in a league of their own. It just so happens that for me Zoo is easier for me to use and turns out to be more efficient for me so I can see the value in paying for it.

Hope that helps and Happy 2011

      Jeff
