You can easily make any site into a travel site. All you need is some nice images and maybe some booking plugin.

It's not directly hard to make a travel site. Just check Joomla extensions on joomla.org.
And get some API keys and then you are done

- I've looked at all the booking extensions on joomla.org and they all suck! Most all are geared towards hotel/property reservations, and are either too complex or way too basic and do a poor job at presenting the information. I have yet to find a descent extension for booking tours, aircraft/boat charter, gear rental, etc. Mr. Zen in the UK has developed a custom Joomla component for booking tours called Travel Zen. It is probably the best one currently available, but you will have to pay them to develop your website in order to get it. http://mrzen.co.uk/website-development/travel-zen.html
