    Choice of Webhost

Posted 14 years 4 months ago
    • Hi guys

I need some advice when it comes to getting a good host for my website. I have been with Go Daddy for some time, without any real problems, but then I haven’t use RT and Joomla for very long either. I have been reading on some of the forums in here http://www.rockettheme.com/forum/index.php?f=17&t=122531&rb_v=viewtopic about which host that are good to use, if running Joomla and RT together.

As my jeans is not full of gold coins, I need to start out on a shared server, but I’m not sure who to choose for this, I can see that you guys recommend Host Gator and Rochen.

My site will be running with Joomla installed, and I will be using RT themes on my site.

I will look forward for your answers

      Bredvig

    • there is nothing wrong with a shared server for Joomla sites.
I have many Joomla sites on shared servers, but they are my own servers where I can monitor and watch for resource hogs and security.

I think you should try to focus on a host that keeps the servers updated with security patches, and shows a slant towards Joomla (or the software you are interested in).

I have someone using x-cart on my servers, and though I have made sure the server is setup to with whatever their needs are, I have suggested that if they run into issues they might be better off with a host that focuses on x-cart.

Do not get caught into any talk of a dedicated server, especially for new ventures. Instead of wasting money on a dedicated server, put that money into development and marketing. You can always get a server later when needed.

    • Many of us mods use Host Gator.

Personally I have never had a problem installing a Rocket Launcher or applying a template with them. PERIOD.

I've heard good things about Rochen as well.

Either is fine IMHO, let your pocketbook decide.

(I can't speak personally on Rochen but with HG, I'm sure you won't be disappointed.)
    • Thanks,

    • I host with Media Temple... www.mediatemple.net/

They're absolutely great, with awesome customer service, and I have never had issues installing RocketLauncher or any RT themes on their hosting. :P

    • I didn’t mention that the server needs to be in EU, just to get a quicker server response time. Been looking at Rochen and they offer UK servers from $8.95. What you get is 1GB Storage, 50GB Data transfer (about 120.000 monthly page views under Joomla), and 1 domain. That’s the smallest plan the offer.

Host Gator offer something similar for about $12.95, but they don’t offer UK/EU servers at the moment. Only US servers.

    • Thank you all for your inputs.

I have been looking at the hosts you guys came up with. I will go with Rochen after all. They seems to fit the bill i need for now, and for longer ahead, as my site developer.
