Difference between categories and sections

- Could someone please explain it to me? I come from PHP-Nuke where this difference was not made.

- Sections and Categories are basically the same apart from Sections being the root areas with categories as their sub types.
  
  For example,
  
  In Joomla! you have the Section News.
  
  But in the News Section, you have categories such as Latest News, Website News, Muffin News etc...

  Taking a sports website. News about Basketball would be a section or a category?

- It could be either.

- I'm quite lost sincerely, I see no diference.
  
  So If for example, I want just to make difference between news that are about different styles of music, such as Hip Hop, Classic Music, Gospel, etc, are they categories or sections??

  You cannot have Categories without having a Section.
  Think of a Section as a container for Categories (at least thats the way that I see it).

- Every content item must belong to both a section and category. You can always just have them the same like so
  section>categery>article
  basketball news>basketball news>article about basketball
