Anyone Use Globat?

  • Anyone Use Globat?

    • well, it doesn't look like there has been a new hosting thread in a few weeks. ;D

My current host keeps failing to live up to their promises (translation - I'm sick and tired of my site being offline 5-10 times a day for a couple minutes at a time), so I'm exploring some options.

Glob@t ( http://www.globat.com/ ) looks very interesting to me. Does anyone have experience with them?

      Thanks!

    • Adam,

Please let me be the first one to tell you to shutdown your sites, step away from Joomla! and take up knitting if you ever decide to try Globat.

When I first started out, I went with them and have never been the same. If you want to speak with a rep, plan on getting older. The wait is incredibly long after you navigate their phone system for eternity. On this site, 52 users reviewed Globat and 48 were negative. http://www.webhostingunleashed.com/globat

When I tried to get out, I didn't know I had to give 15 days notice and to do that, I had to dig waaaaayy deep in the site to find a little text link. I filled out the form and hit 'send' well within the 15 days grace period. A few weeks later they charged me anyway. I never paid. I cussed their reps out for 2 days trying to straighten my mess out. They wouldn't budge. I still never paid, and it never did show up on my credit report. Because if it did, I would challenge it.
So I set up shop with a different host which I have no problems with today. Another funny thing, when I switched hosts, I had to ask Globat to point my domain to my new servers...and wouldn't you know it, they refused until I paid. I got a new domain name.

      Good points:
      • Plenty of space
        Decent prices
        Joomla! runs fine

      Bad Points:
      • The worst customer service in the entire universe!!!!
Very hard to cancel their service.
They love to 'auto-bill' watch out for the extra charges..
Their shared servers are sloooooow when accessing my account..

Read some of those reviews in the link above. I would not recommend this company to anyone. Run far away!
Sorry for rambling, but that hit a nerve in me... :D

    • Wow... thanks for that, Mike. It sure sounds like I won't be seeing much improvement over my current host....

      On with the search. :)

    • Did you read those reviews? Talk about right on. Anyway, there are some really good hosting companies and I hope you find a good one Adam.

    • LOL @ Mike's review.

Adam check out Hostgator, I've heard good things about them. Never used them myself though.

Hostgator and Rochen are the two best hosts in my humble opinion.
Keep in mind that Rochen hosts the Joomla.org site.

      Cheers!
