... i need for an new installation of joom1.6.3 and the NEBULAE package.
some day ago i tried this on an 12" netbook and i´m going crazy after 3 test.
i never seen such a lot of errors!
today i take the mac and it was great with:
XAMPP 1.7.2a
mysql: 5.1.37
php: 5.3.0
apache: 2.2.12
Joomla: 1.6.3
Browser: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.6; rv:2.0.1) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/4.0.1
okay, there is lot of new stuff to check and learn.
A) I use Xampp on WinXP, Win Vista and Win7. Works flawlessly. Once 1.6 is installed, go through EACH ITEM of EACH MENU for template assignments
C) Go through Modules after template change and reassign to proper positions.
99.9% of your errors are going to be MIS-configurations. I say this because I've "been there done that" for the last 3 weeks. Whatever you think you know about Joomla configurations, chuck it. It's a new system. (I'd highly recommend the RT Admin Mod as well. Different but way coooool!)
Read through the documentation thoroughly. Next, read it again and THEN start changing things.
Create your site OFFLINE.
Install Akeeba Backup first. (More study time)
Install Akeeba Admin Tools (Must have!)
Test, test, test your site OFFLINE prior to production.
Backup your OFFLINE site every time BEFORE you install an extension, template, plugin, etc.
MANY "updated" extensions are blowing out since 1.6 came out. Core development and framework weren't the only things changed during this transition. Remember that each change by the thousands (maybe millions) of developers who contributed to Joomla are even more extension developers who are trying to keep up. It's a rat race out there (no, not really.... just very exciting right now).
Once you have done all the above, installed all the extensions, templates, etc. you plan on using, THEN install Nebulae. Make sure all your configurations and assignments are correct.
IF you go through all the trouble above, you'll find Nebulae works seamlessly.
Every problem I've had so far has been solved by a simple configuration setting in 1.6. After 5 years of learning and growing pains with Joomla, I still get overwhelmed with changes. Just keep in mind web design is a learning process and will never be a finite science.
Have fun.
P.S. After 3 weeks of offline development and three uploads of entire site which dies overnight for reasons known only to the Joomla! gods.... I decided to "html" it for a day or two and cut myself some slack.
this is an very usefull/helpfull article for the jump to joom 1.6 and rocket-templates.
i miss something like this in the forum. yes, i got the same experience like yours. i ´ve to learn a lot of new things in joom 1.6.
it would be very helpfull to place some infos like yours near the new templates to get an installation-satisfaction in an easy way.
