    • Hi,

Our main computer crashed recently. We want to buy a new one. What configuration are you recommending? We need a good and fast one that could "handle" simultaneously Adobe PS CS5, Fireworks CS5, Dreamweavear CS5, MS Office 2010 (rarely), other aditionnal software that we all need when working on web. What kind of configurations do you usually use?

      Thank you!

    • I have no problem running Adobe PS CS3, Fireworks CS3, Dreamweaver CS3, MS Office 2003 on my old DT with a 3.2Ghz HT processor and 1Gb of memory.

      (Several application running simultaneously)

I know that your versions are higher than what I run, but pretty much, anything available now is 2-3 better than what I have....

So, I don't see any particular problem with what you can get off the shelf from Dell or some other name brand manufacture.

But one piece of advice, memory is the KEY!

I.e. a 2.4Ghz processor with 2Gb of memory will usually benchmark higher than a 3.2Ghz processor with 1Gb of memory.

Many people shop for processor speed over total memory, and that is because the manufactures of the processors market their products that way.

So, while you are shopping, and are trying to stick to a budget, opt for more memory over a faster processor.

(I'd rather have a dual core processor with 4Gb of memory than a quad core processor with only 2Gb of memory...)

It's the memory that will allow you to run multiple apps at the same time, not the processor.
