Slideshow appears on front page plus all "articles" that appear on front page?

  • Slideshow appears on front page plus all "articles" that appear on front page?

Posted 17 years 10 months ago
    • I'm a newbie to joomla, but learning pretty quickly, but I can't figure out why the slideshow would appear on the Front Page and also on the articles that appear on the front page.

I wish I could show you, but our company prohibits outside access to dev sites, so I'll have to describe it.

Of course, we want the slideshow to show at that top of the "content" portion of the Front Page - which it does. But, when you click on one of the "articles" (stories/whatever) that also appear on the front page, the slideshow appears on that page as well (not desirable).

I have it assigned to appear on:
      bottomNav | Home
      mainmenu | Home

      What am I doing wrong?

I should add that I HAVE created a separate template for the Front Page, and have it assigned to the following pages:
      bottomNav | Home
      mainmenu | Home
      mainmenu | - Home

That kept the slideshow from appearing on ALL pages, now we're just down to the content linked off of the front page.

      Thanks in advance

    • The problem is due to the articles on the front page setting the same itemId as the front page (=1) hence Joomla "thinks" it's still on the front page when it displays that item (which is true).

There may be some answers to this on the official joomla forums.

One workaround would be to put some extra code into the template index.php to test if the frontpage is displayed or if an article is displayed and show/hide the module accordingly.

    • I'd be perfectly content to drop a line of text into every page of content that essentially said if "itemID=1, then don't show the module" but I have no idea how to do that. Which I think that might be what you're getting at.

    • I ended up creating a duplicate template of the one I'm using, and put the monoslideshow code in there, and assigned the home page to the front page template, and the rest of the site uses the original one as the default template.

    • Might want to take a glance at this thread:

      forum.joomla.org/index.php/topic,125365.0.html

On the first page Robs posted the instructions on how to get the old behavior back, 14th post.

I don't know if this is the fix, worth looking at.
