Re: Speed up your Joomla site

    • Just an excerpt from an 'article' I recently wrote on my site:
one component I have tested extensively is IRCMaxell's Page Cache. This component is a must to help speed up page loading on your Joomla site. I've tested it on smaller shared hosting sites and all the way up to large sites running on dedicated servers. So, for that fast site, head over to www.ircmaxell.com and download page_cache today.

If you don't already use this, be sure to check it out... from my testing, it is quite amazing. One downside though, does not support SMF-Joomla Bridge.

    • I am happy to provide more info if people need it. I've recently deployed it on www.itwire.com.au for a client. Page loads are now at least twice as fast... no joke. I find using APC to be faster than the file/db option, however, you need plenty of ram available, especially on a large site.

    • No, just the SMF-Joomla bridge.

    • I have tested this on a "wrapped" SMF based using the 2.02 Joomlahacks bridge and DB method...it works very well. ;D
Not sure how accurate the page load timer is but using the DB option it sure does increase the speed of page delivery.

Did you test this with file based cache?
      Any gotcha's?

    • IMHO, file is slowest, then db and finally APC fastest.

      Wrapped SMF should work fine.

Have you tried JAccelerator if so how do you compare it to Ircmaxell's Page Cache , if not, you have a reason to blog.
I did a quick test with JAccelerator.
It is nice how you can specify the modules and components but...
I had issues with it on com_content blog categories. Page did not render as it stopped output with "File does not exist" errors in the php error_log.
