Is there a specific Forum platform/software that's best used WITH JomSocial? Specifically, I'd like users to have one username and password that logs them into both the forum and JomSocial allowing the two to integrate seamlessly.

Kunena works seamlessly with the plugin (available on the Kunena site).
You'll see member posts and discussions on the JomSocial Activity Stream.
Works pretty well.
Can't speak for the other forum components since I have not tried them.

You can use any forum software and combine it with BBpixel's duel login you have a perfect website

Kunena is also - IMHO - a fantastic forum component in its own right. The criticisms that have historically been made of it (like the huge number of database queries) have largely been addressed, and the latest versions have a feature that automatically blends the look and feel of the forum into your Joomla template. So if you've got a cool RT template you can have a seriously good-looking forum with virtually no work.
