    installing - comments

Posted 17 years 3 months ago
    • Greetings!

I am new in the club...

It was simple to install Simplix, and it worked immediatelly. Looks cool!

      Display in Joomla, at installation:
"This is template is for members of the RocketTheme Joomla Template Club only."
      (Not a big deal, I know... )

      A question:
How can I make the animated favicon work in the template? (Would be nice in all browsers...)

      Thnx

      Tamas

    • Hi James!

It is great what you sent...
However, I want ANIMATED favicon! A .gif.

Like I have in t-channel.hu/ ... (It works in FireFox, but not in Opera and IE...)

      Any idea?

      Thanks,

      Tamas

    • I'm possibly wrong, but I don't think this is something you can fix. those browsers just don't have it in them to display animated favicons. I should mention that they are a distraction anyway and server no useful purpose other than to annoy. I hope FF drops support for them too. Static favicons are great though :)

    • Hi GollumX,

I respect your point of view. As far, as you respect mine.

It might be annoying for you. I understand.

I still want to use the animated favicon.

I have put the message here for help. For assistance.
And not for reading, that what I want is "good" or "bad".

I am very thankful for all help.

      Friendly greetings,

      Tamas

      Thanks, James.
I will try to find the solution for it.

    • Hi Tamas,
I'm sorry you were offended by my post. That was not my intention. You had asked for help... and I had a genuine desire to help you by steering you away from animated favicons. Just as I am typing this message, I am getting distracted by an animated icon in the text-formatting section above this text-box. It is an annoyance, however, it serves a purpose in that it is indicating it's own function... it is the marquee icon. Rather than not advise you at all, I give you my opinion, which is also the opinion of every UI designer of repute in this industry... 'animation should be used sparingly, if at all'.

I did not tell you to stop using animated favicons...GollumX wrote:

I tried to just casually drop in some advice... but i guess I came out a little too strong. Sorry about that.

Anyway, since then, I have actually done some research on this, and it supports my earlier post... IE does not support animated favicons... even further... if you use an animated favicon, they won't even show a static version of it... it will simply be ignored all together.

      Good luck to you Tamas

    • Thanks GollumX!

I am very glad to read all what you wrote.
      Thanks a lot!

The animated favion is just a "toy", a "new tool" what I wanted to learn. Probably I will come to the conclusion -myself, as well- that it is ... what it is.
I am a photographer (and, as I see you with a child on the photo, you might be interested that one of my area is home-birth), I know very few about web-page making. However, I enjoy doing it, most of the times.

I feel deeply touched as well, by the fact, that you went after my "toy", even though you do not like it.

Short time ago I left behind me the many years of Windows background, and landed on Linus (Ubuntu). This changed my lief, a lot. And my style and habits of making homepages, as well. So, I am rather new to Joomla, as well. And I signed up here just some days ago.

If I "protected myself" too strongly, I am sorry. I felt like being "attacked". I am glad to know your intention. (My mother tounge is Hungarian, and not English.)

So, I am glad to read you. And I highly appreciate your letter, what -for me- went further that a simple technical help.

      Thank you,

      Friendly greetings,

      Tamas
