    Question: Seperate Members Folders

Posted 17 years 8 months ago
    • Hi
      I need help

say I have the ability for members to create content (submit content) , and of course they want to add their own images to that content.

how do I set it up so that as they create content, submit this or that,, that the images they upload go to a folder only that member can assess,,, AND,, that folder of image content is then available to them in the future for what ever other content they want to submit

in other words,, a folder whos access is defined and confined by a members ID.......

I noticed while creating the sections and catagories that those members would be able to submit to, asks for a path to an image folder.... so I guess sub folders would need to be created for each member in that path,, I was hoping that that members image folder would be generated on the fly the first time they submitted content.

      does this make sense???

Im Using joom 1.0.12,, CB,, and all the usual suspects of components

    • If they are an author on your site, I assume that they are trusted... I would just simply create folders with their names in the /images folder like:
      /images/judy
      /images/john

-and instruct them to use only their assigned folder. They can then log-in to the back-end and upload their images to their assigned folder... The media manager even gives them the url-tag info for them to use. I wouldn't worry about permissions because that might disrupt the images showing up in their document.

    • OK I solved it and thought I would post back in case any other wanted to have the same set up

if there is a better way,, please let me know

after creating a section and category I set up MY CONTENT as the component for the member to use,,, from there they select create new content,, I have the JCE editor as default editor with restrictions set based on member name,, once the typical Joomla submit content interface appears,,, through the JCE editor they can create a folder based on username,, upload images based on username and link files from docman based on username.

once they publish this content, it is accesable by other members through the authors CB profile using Alpha content or by searching the alpha component page.

had to scratch my noodle on this,, but I got it figured out.
