SEO - What are your recommendations

Posted 12 years 8 months ago
    • Hello all.

I am trying to work on my site's SEO rating. Ideally I am trying to get my site to be better found in the search engines.

I know there are several extensions that help with it but I was hoping to get your opinions as to which one I should sink money and time into to get the best results.

      -RS Seo
      -SH404SEF

      And the others.
      Which one would you recommend?

    • I have not used the others except for testing a little bit so I cannot make fair comparison.

    • I think Joomla and WordPress are already geared towards SEO very well. It's the human hours that you need to spend the most on - creating content, researching keywords, building links and relationships.

I don't see any necessity for SEO plugins / components for your Joomla / WordPress sites. Spend your money elsewhere.

    • I would say good content ... good SEO.
      Never try to cheat.
Personally I try to discuss with my clients what is important for them, what kind of search terms will be probably used ... and after that we adjust the text. My experience is: every single word on the homepage counts.
An you need to evaluate results. SEO is a living thing.

    • I agree with Henning...I have spent a fair bit of time researching SEO for a number of my sites. There isnt a magic module that will do it for you unfortunately.
Its all about good content and quality backlinks to other reputable sites.
I started by getting a good book on the subject. This gave me the background. I then continually read articles on the web to keep my knowledge current.
You need to be careful though, as SEO can eat up all of your time if you let it :)

    • I also agree and have found most extensions just break other stuff you may end up using. Many of them also make changing content or adding new stuff a lot more work also.

If it's basic seo knowledge you need and a work at your own pace style I really like WEB CEO they usually have good promos on in the summer...i think i saw the desktop version for 299...if you put something on your facebook about them they will give you another 50 bucks off.

It's been helpful for me and easy to use. it will however showcase lots of errors usually that may give you a headache. but SEO truly is never ending

They also have what I think to be one of the best certification processes I have used online and it's not very expensive to take the course...you could take the course and use a lot of that knowledge to just do it on your own with tools like googles keyword tool/external or inside google adwords.

There are a few features inside the program that are monthly fees, which did bug me a bit, but I just don't use them and found other ways to get the information and track and record it myself.

The program they offer does make it faster and easier.....they have a web based version and a desktop version....there are things to like and not like about both, but I ended up going with the desktop version.

      Good Luck!

Dead on. SEO is a living thing that you need to tend consistently. Good SEOs would not worry too much about SEO at all. Instead they worry about people.

      SEO vs. People

They worry if their content are interesting enough as to attract people the instant they see it.

Many SEO plugins / extensions just add stuff that are almost useless such as keywords and meta description.

    • Have to echo the above sentiments.

Content is and always will be king.

Plugins and mods/comp add bells and whistles and to be fair will not make your task more likely to succeed.

Good, fresh, relevant content, written for the visitor will return dividends.

Couple this with a sound nav structure (so your indexing is straight forward) and you should be good to go.

Don't just build and leave it. As above, it is a constant cycle of evaluation...
