If your "select menu type" stops working...

Just posting to save time if anyone else runs into this:
After running some updates, the "select menu type" failed to open the list of choices.
It worked only with IE7 -- not firefox or Chrome. After trying a bunch of ideas, what worked was the simple act of clearing my browser cache.
(I was using the graffito template, Joomla 2.5.)
