Editing Index.php

- Hi all, I am a new member and would like to add the commands into index.php that allow me to, say change style or menu type. I can open the file in an editor, but for the life of me can't see where in here I insert the text. Part of the problem could be that it looks to me to be a vanilla version of the file rather than one that has been designed for a particular template. If this is likely, where do I get the correct file? If it is the correct file, could someone please tell me where I should insert the commands required? Thanks heaps!

- Are you sure you are looking in the correct index.php which is in /template/template_name/index.php?
