SOLVED Unable to password protect a page

Posted 12 years 1 month ago
    • I have a website that has a menu item that is password-protected. (Registered)

When you login you can go to the one article under this menu. This article has a module embeded in it using the {loadposition}.

I am using mod_roknewspager to display an accordion style list for various articles. All of these articles should be password protected. The module itself has the access level set to REGISTERED. I have even gone in and created a hidden menu and assigned all articles that normally show up in the rock news pager to this menu item. Each menu item also has an access level of REGISTERED.

The problem is if you Google "lavender brown indigo" and click on the second search engine result, it will take you to one of the REGISTERED pages and allows you to download the PDF which is not suppose to be accessible to NON-REGISTERED users.

How do I prevent this from happening.

This image is hidden for guests.
Please log in or register to see it.

      Many thanks,
      Houston

    • Not sure how a plugin for attachments will help. These are pages that should never show up unless you are logged in.

    • Problem was the articles themselves needed to have the access levels to "Registered". Once that was done, you could no longer get to them from the Google SERPS page.

    • I misread your post then, I'd kind of assumed that you'd already set the article itself to be registered only as well as the menu item.

As for the PDF, I mentioned the attachments as you'd said you didn't want people to download the PDF and those give you extra options for restricting access.

You might want to stop the actual page itself from being indexed by the SERPS also in your .htaccess file.

    • cmyk,

Thank you for your answer. I am not sure how to prevent the SERP's from indexing those pages via .htaccess. CAn you point me in the right direction?

      Many thanks,

      Thanks again.

I'm mindful of our RT friends here so I'll keep it brief, I hate to point you to a resource outside of here :cheesy: but I use the Download feature from the Zoo component and I love it. If you like it, perhaps also suggest this type of extension in the http://www.rockettheme.com/forum/index.php?f=16&rb_v=viewforum forum :P
