Transferring local site to Internet ..

Posted 17 years 2 months ago
    • Hi guyz,

After a few weeks of work .. my site is `almost` ready to go ..

I just have one question.. over the last few weeks i modified the template, added news tibdits, added smf .. etc.. etc..

I think i`ve read somewhere around here that i could transfer my local site .. with everything i had done so far .. directly to the net .. I can`t seem to find the thread anymore .. or was i dreaming ??

Could someone point me in the right direction please ..

      Thanks.

    • There are few threads here spaced around but I would bet loads will be over at forum.joomla.org

      Some questions to ask yourself

1# Do I know how to transfer a database via phpmyadmin?
2# Do I know how to FTP? (If so, use Filezilla :) )
3# Do I know I need to edit the configuration.php file to reflect the new location?

    • Hey guyz,

I`m sorry, i forgot one element in my message ..

I know how to manually transfer everything .. no problem there .. i just thought i had read somewhere here that there was an application designed to automate this task.

    • Hi BenGalf,

I'm very interested how you went with the transfer from local workspace to the web - I'll be attempting this in the next few weeks.

      Cheers

    • Joomlacloner will transfer it all...files and database. I believe they offer a 7 day trial that is fully functional too.

      Be sure to trial it.

I spent $70 on it two weeks ago only to find it wouldn't work because of my server settings (whatever they were, the joomlaplug guys couldn't explain)

Ended up having to transfer the site manually, which is easy enough but as I do this at least thrice a month I figured would be worth having a fast way to do it.

    • I wouldn't spend the money for at least two reasons. One, I am cheap and two, it is easy enough to do manually.

      Hey Gollum,

I am not sure if it was you that said it or not, but do you use a VPS?

    • Thats right Joe, i have a VPS with Servint, and a reseller with an Australian based host. I often have to transfer between the two.
