Items Not Accessible To Users

    • I have a problem that is proving to be pretty frustrating...

Articles published to the News and Articles sections appear to be loading fine for end users, but items posted to other sections (such as Newsflash and a section I created manually) will not load. The public and registered users get a notice saying that the resource is not accessible, and to please log in. Admins can view the articles just fine.

The interesting part is that a) everything is public, and b) users can get to the items if they use a different menu item that lists the sections in another format (such as blog). They just can't click to view the individual article.

It doesn't look like a permission issue on the articles themselves. I thought it might be something with OpenSEF, but have yet to find anything.

It's worth noting that I didn't get any reports until this morning. I implemented new tabs and sliders modules/plugins a few days ago, but am not sure how that could be the issue, especially considering that some items are working fine...

If someone has an idea or suggestion or solution, I would really appreciate it.

      The site is: fantasyfootballwhiz.com

      Thanks!

edit: It's not OpenSEF... I turned it off, and still got the dreaded "You are not authorized" message.

edit2: I'd still like to figure out what caused this and how to fix it, but I created more categories under News (which works fine) and moved the items under the affected sections into the new categories. That seems to have given me a workaround...

    • I am getting this problem too! Everything on my site is "public" but for some reason I get the "you are not authorized to view this resource warning! Help!

I guess I should note that I am using the SImplix template...

    • Hey,

check out the Locale tab under Global Configuration and make sure its set to your time zone...it may be affecting the time your articles start to be published.

Not sure that's your problem but it seems to have helped me.

      Cheers, Andrew

    • I don't think that's it... my articles never become available, regardless the publishing time set, and some sections work while others do not.

This has me baffled, and I haven't found anything out there that has worked for me. I'm okay with using more categories under the sections that work, though, so for now I guess it's an acceptable band-aid.

      Thanks!

    • Well, my band aid (moved everything under the News section) worked for a few days, but suddenly today - for no apparent reason that I can see - several categories in my News section are not accessible as individual content items. If I view them in blog format, they all load fine.

At least one of my News section categories work. If you look at fantasyfootballwhiz.com , you can get to the Inactive Lists items form the slider menu on the right. However, the Latest News & Rumors items (their categories are Newsflash, Rumor Mill, and Latest News) give a You Are Not Authorised (their spelling, not mine) message. The weird thing, as I mentioned, is that if you click on the News icon at the top, it lists the full items in blog format.

Admins don't have a problem - just public and registered users.

I've not had much success with anything I've seen suggested at joomla.org. And ideas or suggestions would be VERY welcome. I'm really up against a wall here...

      Thanks!

    • I have checked out your problem and it seems very similar to mine...I create a new category and it won't let me view the damn thing - exactly the same error message.

My workaround has been to utilize/rename the categories that came with the default template. So far that has sufficed. But when I run out of categories I can re-name, I may have problems!

I haven't explored it as thoroughly as you, but when I get more time to spend on it I will let you know if I make any progress. For the moment, however, all I can say is: You are not alone!

      Cheers, Andrew

    • Okay... I think I solved this... for now, anyway.

I had a Content Section Blog listing on the Home submenu that went to the News section. It was unpublished, but set to Special. I deleted it from the menu system (changing it to public did NOT work), and suddenly I was able to get to the news stories from a browser that was not logged in.

There are some very weird questions here - like why was it working before - but I'm not going to look a gift horse in the mouth right now. For anyone else with a similar issue, check for anything in your menuing system that points to the area that isn't acccessible that is set to Special...
