I brought this over from my original joomla forum post since I figured that due to my being a dedicated Rocketter, my questions would be better answered here in terms of overall compatibility etc.
I have used both CB and JomSocial in the past, but have yet to use CB Professional seeing as I haven't needed it. I have used JomSocial for a community portal I ran and really liked it, but as time goes on and the years pass by (This was Joomla 1.5 era), I notice more and more hidden add-ons that cost money like simple modules or features that should be included.
I would love to hear some input on your favorite community extensions in regards to compatibility, overall value, etc. I already know I am going to need to go all the way and grab a license versus taking a free CB alternative. Enjoy your new week!

- I haven't used CB in a while. Still developing 2-4 JomSocial sites a year probably. I don't think I've ever purchased an add-on extension for JomSocial, but I've done a ridiculous amount of customization. The layout of their pages causes all sorts of problems especially in responsive templates. Lots of lazy styling in there too, using !important left and right. I may get back to using CB, but I really used that on Forum sites and now I use Kunena which I like a lot.
