moving my website to a new domain on a new host

    • Hi there,
Sorry for what I seems a basic question, but I have my site running nicely on a .org domain hosted with company X. I need to move it to a new .com domain with a different hosting company.

      Is the following procedure correct?

      1) Install Joomla on the new domain
      2) Install the appropriate template
      3) Copy over the configuration.php and index.php files from my current site
      4) Import mySQL database
      5) Import my images
      6) Sit back and marvel at my brilliance

If anyone can tell me whether at least the first five steps are correct, I'd love it!

      Cheers, Andrew

    • I would-
      - export my tables on the existing site first.
      - then create new DB.
      - Import to the new DB.
      - Install the new Joomla on new host (be sure NOT to select drop existing tables).

Transfer your template files from your old site (if this is in your plans).

    • Why not use something like JoomlaPack or JoomlaCloner?
