I am presently hosting my sites with myhosting.com . The pricing isn't bad but I have been having MYSQL errors, and non responsive errors or crashes, for the past 2 months. I have spoken to their support and they have not done much to rectify the situation other than to get me to pay for more memory (which didn't help the issues).
Long story short, I want to move to another host. I have always used VPS, but my sites aren't the busiest or heaviest, so maybe a shared or cloud solution would work well for me.
I know Rochen and Cloudaccess apparently are good choices as Joomla itself endorses them by hosting their official sites on them.
But what is the real world opinion on them?
What else is good?
I need something stable, and fast. My page loading is really slow and the server currently is slow to respond. I even use Cloudflare, but not sure if that is having a negative effect or not. Seems to be the same even when I disable it. Maybe try Incapsula next too.
Let me know what you all recommend. Thanks a million!
Rochen is really solid (and really expensive...and really stingy with their storage).
I left Rochen for HostGator and aside the a recent server migration that left a lot of people without service/off-and-on service for a day or so, I have never had any other problems...and no problem with their prices.
I've been with stormondemand.com running a private dedicated cloud server for about 3 years.
In short...WOW....best company I've been with EVER. (no to IX, blue, goDaddy (goBaddly) lol...to name a few laggards...) I pay about $150.00/mo for private dedicated cloud server running cpanel/apache/linux with all the bells and whistles it's about $165.00/mo.
++++
Private cloud servers - scalable, cloneable, resizable, deletable, direct cpanel to cpanel links (for moving entire accounts from old server to new) off site storage/backup available for pennies, dedicated network admin support for pennies, firewalls, custom configs of apache/mysql mod_sec et al...

can't think of any/many....erm, I keep my shell closed and use the java based shell via the storm control panel...network admins are always tight on support, especially with people that don't bug them with nonsense...minuses...erm....well, I guess if you get heavy with downloading, too many backups tarred on the server, too much up traffic...you get charged a few pennies for extra bandwidth....but, nope, can't think of any minuses...
Mention drsawbones account and you might get a discount or they might give me one
I think Rochen, Cloudaccess and Siteground are the best options because they're very active in the open source community. You can find great resources for J! and J! extensions in the cpanels, and this makes it easy for your clients if you're working as an affiliate or reseller.
I've been with Arvixe for 6 months now after major MySQL problems on Gandi Hosting not handling a store. I have had no problems with Arvixe so far with 4 websites and no downtime. They're worth a try.
