SOLVED Problem with adding an item to a menu

Posted 13 years 4 months ago
    • When I try to add an item to a menu (all menus give this error), I get this message:

Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 16777216 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 7680 bytes) in ../web/administrator/components/com_menus/toolbar.menus.html.php on line 26

      Any idea ?

[SOLVED] It was a problem with PHP4. My hosting company installed PHP5 and now, everything is fine.

    • Yves I searched Google for that error and I think this has something to do with it:
the setting "memory_limit" the php.ini file is 16MB, but you tried to upload more than that somehow!
you have to set this on 32MB.

    • In your root of ftp site you should find something called php.ini - in there you can find your max memory setting for executing scripts.

Mine is 8mb so it will probably cause problems as well.

I wonder if one is allowed to change that as they fit, or if it's set by the hosting company?

    • But then again... adding something to a menu should not require that much - should it?

    • Thanks Thomas, I cannot access php.ini, therefore I contacted the hosting company to see if they can resolve my problem... This is not on my personal site, but on another one for testing purposes.

    • Hope you get it sorted Yves..

I have not had a change to play with it yet, and it will probably take some time, but I hope it's a isolated issue and not a general error, because many have a low memory limit afaik.

      Tell us, when you know!

    • Depending on the server you're on, I had to have my complete site backed up and placed on another server that did have a high memory capability. This was so I cvould run Gallery2.
