    Web Designers / Programmers keyboard?

Posted 16 years 11 months ago
    • Hi,

is there such a thing as a Web Designers / Programmers keyboard?

I am starting out learning CSS and already think such a device would be useful. To elaborate on what I mean I mean a keyboard that you don't have to use two hands on pressing shift at the same time as say a curly brace. so, like a normal keyboard with a pad of the syntax used set up to actual keys as opposed to sharing keys activated by pressing shift. Not too dissimilar to the numeric pad. This could even be a USB separate plug in device

I know this sounds incredibly lazy but I think it would increase productivity. I have goggled but come up with a blank so not sure if I'm searching with the wrong terminology.

Please can someone reply and let me know if this doesn't exist? Hey, I may well invent one ;D :D ;D

    • You might have gotten such a keyboard for Christmas, but I fear Santa's sleigh will be vaporised before he has a chance to reach your chimney. :P (refer your sig)

    • This one, Optimus Maximus keyboard , for Mac or Windows, looks promising. Each key has a small display which shows what this button can do, or the function it's associated with:

You can program each key, here for example for Photoshop:

    • Don't have a link handy, but I have seen a USB keypad (I think in the 80-90 USD range) that has somewhere between 10 and 20 keys laid out in a grid, that are all programmable. Additionally, each key has a paper insert so that they can be labeled.

I have been following the OM for over a year now, and I think that, while undeniably cool, it is considerably more expensive than I could justify for a keyboard.

Yes, I agree, it's cool but quite expensive, especially if you want 113 active buttons !
