solved - How do I do an Inline Preview while site in offline mode

Hey All,
I am a newbie here so bare with me.
Running Joomla 1.0.13, dimensions
Here is the issue:
When I am using the "default" template that comes with joomla and my site is offline in global config. I can still go to preview site in new window and I get the site. It has the red bar at top of page saying "Site offline,etc." but it still lets me see the site.
When I make my dimensions template default then goto preview in new window or preview inline... It shows me the "This site is down for maint." splash screen.
Can someone please tell me how to configure the dimensions site to preview in new window with that red bar not the joomla down for maint.
Sorry if this is duplicate post, I did extensive search before starting new thread!!!

Is your site set to "offline" in the Global Config?
Site > Global Configuration
and it's the first radio button in the list...

Yes, set to offline. However on the solarflar (default) template, when its offline, it gives me a little red bar at top when i do preview that says offline, but i can still see. if i use any other template it wont do that.

- Your site will be offline if you set it that way, however, it is much better to use .htaccess with Joomla 1.0x

I am kinda of a "why" person. lol
so.....
WHY??? If it works with the default template, why not with other templates? Is it a switch in the code? Can that be changed to point to this? Etc.
Really not trying to be a pain, just really want to know.

- To be honest, I do not know but htaccess is a lot better in Joomla 1.0x

ok, trying to use .htaccess and .htpasswd to protect a live site while I design. I have read all the posts here and on joomla site in the forum. I have followed all the directions, my .htaccess file looks exactly like all the examples, used the encryption tool to generate password.
Here is the issue:
It does not work. Its not pulling up the log on dialog box and just going straight to my site.

THANKS FOR THE REPLY.
Just checked myself and its working. Called godaddy to see if they had a reason, etc. found out godaddy servers update .htaccess files ever hour. SO, my issue was just waiting on server update.
