How to change the favicon.ico

I have tried to replace the favicon.ico by removing the old file from the media manager and replacing it with my icon of the same name. That didn't work, any ideas on how to change it? i know there is another thread on the firenzie template for this problem but it isn't solved and i believe different templates call the icon from different places. Anyone know how to replace it in Simplix?
