Is it possible to force content positioning?

  • Is it possible to force content positioning?

Posted 16 years 10 months ago
    • Hello! My name is Nuno, and i'm a newbie and a Professional Member.

I'm setting up a website using the Dimensions template.

I would like, very much, tu push articles into some module positions.

For instance, position a static content article into user7, the first tab of rokslide.

Does anyone know if that is possible to do?

      Best regards.

    • if you want to put static content into a module position, the easiest way to do this would be to create a new module and copy in your content ..

    • Damo, thank you for your help.

As you should imagine, that was not what i had in mind.

It seems it's one of the few limitations i find in Joomla.

We have great control over the modules content layout and positioning, but over articles, it falls very short.

Or maybe, as a newbie i am, i still lack the full understanding of it's philosophy.

I was hoping for some kind of code trick to push articles into modules positions.

Anyway, here we're at RocketTheme's House, not at Joomla's.

      Thank you again.

      Best regards

If I understand what you want to do, you need the Content Item Module .
This modules allows for publishing content items or articles in areas other than mainBody(). Choose if you want to display a single item, all items from a category, all items from a section, or a number of content items/categories/sections specified by a comma separated list of ids. Simply enter the content item ID in the module's parameters field, assign a position to the module, and publish it. You can copy the module and assign a different name, position and contentitem id to the copy. Also includeds a "Read more" link option. With the "merge items" option you can merge multiple content items (/categories/sections) into one document for print and pdf.
I can vouch that it works as advertised.

Let us know how it goes.

    • Webs, can i ask for your name?

I don't understand why you ask for a link.

My issue is not specific. It's more about Joomla's philosophy. And about me grabing some help to understand it.

I'm a systems analyst and designer, and i'm missing something here.

We build a content structure based on sections, categorys and articles, and then, we are limited to show one article at a time? And all at the same place?

If you already used the Dimensions template, tell me if you didn't miss to publish articles into the rokslide tabs?

I'm using that template to build a website for a hotel. I pushed the rokslide to the top, and there, i need to position price campaigns, online booking, and more.

Modules are not front-end editable, and i'd like the customer to edit their campaigns them selfs.

Of course the main trouble here is that i'm doing my first joomla implementation.

I already passed through my RFM method, but still, i'm driving blind.

      Thanks for reading.

    • Nice to meet you Mariela!

Your rokslide could use what i was looking for, because only the ATP rank needed to be updated in the index.php code.

Then, each item you have in each tab, could be created as articles in a given categorie, or as static content, and them published to each module position you have.

To update each player info, you, or your customer, could use the front-end, instead of editing modules in the administrator.

      Best regards.
