MediaMogul user positions 1-3 and the read me links - need advice

  • MediaMogul user positions 1-3 and the read me links - need advice

Posted 17 years 3 months ago
    • I am using the Mediamogul template for my site and workig with user postions 1-3. I have general topics assigned to each one of the reviews. The first being a monthly equipment review, the second being monthly training advice and the 3rd being a monthly featured team. Each month their will be new equipment, training and teams so in a sense there would be a buildup of monthly aritcles. My question is where should I point the 3 readme links? Sholuld they point to simply static content or should instead point to either an article library or interactive blog. Any suggestions are appreciated and I really want my site to be an interactive community.

      thank you

      Mark,

Where did you edit these? I can't find a place where to edit them. I will use static pages in my case if I could only find where to edit. Someone should make a block chart as to where to edit for the newbies. Carl

      thank you

    • Carl,

If you installed the rocketlauncher package for mediamogul you can edit the existing site modules that are assigned to user positions 1-3. This will give you the home page look and feel. You just edit the photo and text to suit your own topic. If you did not install through rocketlauncher you will need to create 3 site modules assigning 1 for each user position 1-3 and create the content you want in the site module. Let me know if you need assistance and I can help. What I am trying to do with mine is determine where a site visitor would go after clicking the read more link. I could easily send them to some static content but I am considering using a blog with a category for each one of the topics. Not sure how it will work but I'll post here after I experiment.

      Good luck

    • I'm trying to do the same thing as you Mark. I was going to use regular content items and different Sections and Categories to separate everything, that way I could build a list of past articles for each category for them to go back to should they want to access them in that way. The blog idea sound intriguing though. Are the articles still searchable if you use a blog to store them?

Also, does anyone know a nice and easy way to get the Content Item into a module without having to re-create a portion of the content?

    • Found to Content Item Module to get the content item into the module with most of the correct formatting from the Module Class Suffix parameter... what an awesome module!

    • UtahJefe,

How would your site visitors gain access to the articles in the categories. Is there some type of link to an article library? I'll let you know how I make out with the blog since I am installing it today.

      Thank you

    • That is what I am hoping to find... still no luck though. iJoomla has something like it in their news portal software, but I would prefer to find something a little less pricey.

      How did your blogs go?

    • Maybe, I am mis-understanding all of you, but -- you create a section for each addition of lets say - "A monthly Magazine" starting with Jan 2008.

-In the Jan 2008 Magazine we have 3 categories. "How to shovel snow", "Things you can do with Snow" and "The Science of a snowball"

In the main menu - we create a Section Blog (writing from memory - to lazy to go look up :P it's something section - I think there is actually two options for single sections ??? - sorry brain dead) and label it J08Mag - hence every sub category feeds to that blog.

At the bottom of the home page I create 3 UCD ( www.joomlaworks.gr ) modules...each with their own unique ID and pointing to one of the 3 categories in Jan 2008 Magazine. (I think that module lets you add intro text - if not there are a couple of good modules that let you add intro text that you can set to show 1 item and choose between newest, oldest blah, blah, blah)

When Feb 2008 comes I recreate the same thing I did for Jan 2008, but the difference is I put an archive menu of past issues on its own menu and place it within the new top Mag (Feb 2008). The archive menu or past issues will feature Jan 2008 within Feb 2008 after that Mar 2008 will then take over the main spot and the archive will have Jan 2008 and Feb 2008.

::) I just woke up - long night - so, if I am off base or I am rambling non-sense sorry. :P

    • That module is very close to what I am looking for, but not quite. I really need a way to list all of the different categories, and make them click-able to go to a list of all articles in that category. That plug-in will list the articles from a given section, but I don't want the articles, only the categories. But for now, this may have to do.

      Thanks for your help!
