Looking for a new TV, any suggestions?

Posted 17 years 3 months ago
    • I'm going to upgrade. I've currently got a Panasonic TH42PV60E which is a plasma and I love it, but now is a good time to upgrade.

I'm thinking LCD and the Sony Bravia KDL40W3000 but does anyone have any suggestions or advice?

      Cheers

Yes. My advice is to not buy a television, throw the old one away. Do not watch television. It will rot your brain, reduce IQ, and make you start to believe that your government really does want to help you.

Take the TV money and buy plane tickets to other parts of the world and buy pints of beer for strangers.

    • I second Mack's advice.

Note that I live in another part of the world. I can also pretend I'm a stranger... so if you need help implementing Mack's advice, PM me. :)

      :P

      I don't like this thread, but maybe it's because I watch my Telly on a 16" with a Chinese brand I can't pronounce :o

    • Where can I email you my address? I am assuming you will no longer need the old plasma and I really would like to do my part helping you by taking the old one off your hands.

    • I'd go with sony or samsung lcd tv's. for me the price will be the main factor because they both have solid LCD TV Lines.

    • I think you'll find going from a Plasma (especially a Panny) to LCD (especially Sony, yuk) will be a downgrade, not an upgrade.

If quality is more important, go for a Panasonic panel (TH42PH10) - around £750 but you will need to purchase video boards. These give a greater picture and control options over the Viera equivalents. Or if you wanna go bigger, the TH-50PZ70B offers full HD resoluton in a TV package so a little more practical.

    • Dan, are you sure it's a downgrade?

I used to think that with LCD but after spending an evening with a lesser Bravia than the one I'm looking at I was more than impressed - I'm a little unhappy at losing 2 inches but the wife tells me that's nothing to worry about. Add to that the 2 component slots and 3 HDMI slots I'm sorted for everything possible.

By the way - I love Panny and I'm actually quite sad at losing the one I've got.
