Popular Groups Mod Question

The description for the popular groups mod in this theme says that it displays the newest groups created in groupjive. However, it seems to only display the groups with the most members.
Is there anyway to create a mob that displays random groups? Or lets the admin choose the ones that they want displayed? Or even the most active groups?
