Wireless Card?

  • Wireless Card?

    • I suddenly find myself in need of a new wireless card for my laptop.
The card in it now keeps acting up--smack it around flip it off and on a few times gets it working again... ;D Can anyone recommend a specific make/model ?
As a sidenote if you know that the card will work with LINUX (debian) without using ndiswrapper, or other pain in the A** config. that would be a bonus....

    • Depends on what you mean by wireless card. A NIC that connects to your home router? I had that, and eventually went back to wired. At home I just needed the 100% stability, the wireless card never did that for me.

When I'm on the road I have a Merlin EX720 by Novatel wireless card, and use the Sprint network. Not the fastest or the best, but it gets the job done and beats the hell out of dial.

I am referring to the wireless PC card in my laptop. Fits into a cute little PC card slot in the side. I use it for hooking up to wireless networks all over the place The laptop also has a wired connection available, a gigabit ethernet card that works fine. The problem is that I can't always get to my wired connection and need to use the wireless at times. for arguments sake I can go to starbucks or my other favorite internet cafe and get online...chug mass quantities of expensive caffeine...eat danish, muffins, and in general make a nuisance of myself here at RT when I am out and about.... ;D

The card that's in there now is acting up for a while now (probably took one too many spilled coffees hehe)
Really just looking to see if any RT'ers out there
      A)
know of a good quality brand/card to replace the current card with,
      B)
that works with linux with minimal fuss

I usually just pop on over to newegg.com for anything hardware related but there are sooo many options available
in a range of like 20$ to 100$ + for seemingly the same things...
Didn't know where to start. Wireless networking is not one of my strongest point's of knowledge,
So here I am....using RT for research...... ;)

i'll expand but you'll think i'm mad. 60 year or however many years ago it was cool to smoke, good for you in fact. now we all know it's bad - real bad.

well - wifi is the tobacco for the 21st century. nobody knows what the long term effects of wifi are (or any other device that transmits or receives)

no i'm not mad and schools in the UK, Sweden as well as hospitals are all stopping wifi - spending thousands in moving back to a wired network.

when we moved into our new house, we went wireless because it is quite big and to wire up would have cost a lot. i had headaches almost instantly - but it took me time to track down the reason. the most horrible part was i had a device in the bedroom next door to my sons room

the very day i spent the money and get the house wired, the very day, my headache goes

the thing is - you'll say i'm mad and thats fine. but do you want to risk it with your family? it's okay risking yourself .. but if yo have loved ones ...
