    • Not sure if this was made before.

I want to know what in fact and what in your opinion is the advantages of one over another. Keep in mind Joomla integration

    • IMO..

If Joomla integration is a goal then at the present time SMF is what you're after. However, feature and otherwise, phpBB3 is ahead by a long shot.

phpBB3 lacks a good bridge but that will be remedied when RT releases one in the coming months (currently in beta). Once there is a stable bridge for the phpBB3, it will become the numero uno forum for joomla integration.

    • I just got back from a conference on sustainability in the packaging industry (yawn), and they had us asking questions about things like... for a chewing gum package--"Does it have to be gum?"

So, I'm going to ask the question. Why create another forum bridge for Joomla? There is, as GollumX put it, a bridged solution for SMF. There is (is it still breathing) an integrated component being developed in Fireboard. So, why are we putting blood and sweat into another bridge? GollumX stated phpBB3 is a long shot ahead of SMF in features... I skimmed the comparison list. I didn't get excited. Did I miss something?

Bridging forever ties you to patching and breaking cycles. Howabout an integrated blogging solution? No, not bridged. Joomla already has all the guts it needs waiting for someone to develop a robust, simple to install blogging solution for Joomla. I'd give an eyetooth for a great (complete) blogging component for Joomla!

      I'm just sayin'...

    • I would give an eye tooth too, but every time I do that, someone ends up solving the problem. Hence, no eye teeth.

Gotta AGREE with you - a damn good Blogging module, built-in to Joomla would be a very important advancement.

Wordpress kicks Joomla's ass now, and that just should NOT be so.

    • I've switched to Fireboard myself. I've been running CB, and FB ties in nicely.

    • Given my affinity for forums, I was disappointed to learn that I couldn't bridge PHPBB3 in a J!1.0.x environment, as I think it's the best forum platform I have ever used. :)

I was further disappointed, finally getting over my grief and settling on SMF, that I couldn't bridge SMF in any Joomla install > 1.0.12 (I think .12), but was happy to see that RocketLauncher is bundled in 1.0.12, so I am good to go, right? :)

But given the choice, as others said, I think phpbb3 is echelons above SMF on its own...not sure the implications of wrapping and integrating with Joomla, being totally new to the platform.

Fireboard seems like the most logical choice, but have read that it's a db killer with the db calls and the like...seem people claim as many as 400-500 on a larger site with lots of sub forums...ouch.

    • I use both and I think that bb3 is better than smf any day, however, smf is more compatible with joomla.

    • Is it not possible to add a thread title to the 'page' title? I notice that every SMF forum I frequent, to include RT and the J! mothership, all have the same title for each forum page...sucks when you try to bookmark a bunch of threads and have to change the title due to duplicity...and bad SEO, I guess. :)

Perhaps there isn't anything out there to accomplish this, given the 'wrapping?'

So when is this going to be released? I am using Community Builder right now with the CB Connector and phpbb3. I have over 1000 members. I would certainly be interested in a cleaner bridge for the joomla phpbb3 integration.
