Inserting Fireboard posts/MyBlog posts/comments on frontpage

I understand that components like Fireboard & Myblog are rendered in the Mainbody and cannot place them in module positions
But I read in a post that "you can get extensions which are modules themselves though." Can someone elaborate? Is there any easy way to insert recent forum or blog posts/comments on the frontpage?
