Anyone know of a Google Maps extension to list places / attractions?

I know there are a few scripts I can use .. but wanting to use Joomla ... so thought I'd ask here if anyone has any exprience of using something and they are happy to share.
What I want to, quite simply, is a user land on the site and they're presented with a map with a legend that if they select, will dispaly attractions / places based on that category.
I want to use Joomla because I want to also create a page about each attraction or place as a sort of independet review.
Any ideas / suggestions?

I'm not too familiar with any Joomla Extensions for it...

Hi there,
Depends on how many entries. I did a site for Church of England with 17,000+ entries using Joomla, SobiPro, and GeoCode Factory Maps
