Color up or live product design, very cool but how can I do it

A popular thing in the skydiving online business is the "color up" page. You can click on the different colors they carry and design a parachute or a rig or a gear bag, etc. Some of these programs link a users results to a database or email when they order.
Is this possible with Joomla?

I guess most of these type things are flash based, but I would love to know if there was another way to do it. Any and all ideas are welcome!
