I was looking at wide screen monitors and my only recollection of one was that the screen looked crappy and all stretched out. So before I spent a lot of money on a monitor I would ask what they look like.
Seemed like a simple question. Maybe I need to drag my lazy cow a$$ to best buy and see for myself.

LOL - I was kidding - ummm, yes I know what you are talking about - I once bought a flat screen on sale to add to my lap top (2nd monitor) it looked like crap and couldn't handle the resolution I wanted.
So, really I think it is the screen resolution settings you have to check.
:'( I am in the middle of nowhere and can only dream of visiting a Best Buy - Hell, give me a 7/11 at this point and I might remember what civilization is like.

I think that the problem is either a misconfigured monitor driver or onboard video not being able to display the native resolution of the monitor. I'd gamble that it's the latter and not the former.

- it's all about resolution, if you run a widescreen monitor at say 1600x1200 which works great on a 20" 4:3 monitor, it will look awful on a 16:9 aspect ratio monitor. That's why they have resolutions like 1900x1200 for widescreens. So basically you get more space while keeping the aspect ratio so things 'DONT' look distorted.

That is what I needed to know.
Ok, while I am asking....lets say I have Cable with HD is there any way to plug that into the monitor and watch tv?

Directly into the monitor, no, into your computer, yes, but you would need special hardware such as this that is capable of HD.
With a HD capable video card you can also output an HD signal from your computer to a monitor or an HD TV. - The member formerly known as Roland Deschain

- ( web sites are my hobby) But I do a lot of video compositing, Special FX and 3D animation at my real job a wide screen 16:9 is a must. I really have gotten used to them but it is odd sometimes to view websites on them,, they seem so "skinny" compared to when viewed on a typical monitor

My wife loves her wide screen. Drives me nuts to have just one screen. She opens different windows and makes them it in the wide screen. aaarrrggghhhh. I use (2) wide screens, one for code the other to view. And that drives my wife crazy. Because even with the 2 monitors I still have a crap load of windows open.
