I bought joomlacloner some time ago and that is the only tool of this nature that I have used.
I hear good things about Jombackup too.

I've heard great things about JoomlaCloner, but it wouldn't work on my server (i've locked it down tight). Was a wasted $70 for me. Should be fine on shared servers though. I use JoomlaPack and it works great.
I've used Joombackup before and on a couple of sites, I could never get that mambot to fire. I went back into super high intensity security mode again last month and I have found Joomlapack to work quite nicely for what I needed.
Im agree with GollumX....i went through that same history with Joomcloner...but again i tried it a month ago and there thats work...if you dont wanna buy it i can share mine( i think that im not breaking any rule). Joomclomer make all that hard work (with luck and if you server works with that you will clone your site in 20 minutes)

Honestly, JoomlaPack, with JomBackup and CPANEL back up is great. Why just stick with one. ;D Also, on my Cpanel I do a partial of each section and a full.
As for JoomlaPack and JoomlaCloner - Both are good...but if there is a change in Joomla (upgrade) or it doesn't work with your server. They both respond to feed back - so, you might have a blackout period, but they are each getting better.
Best of luck...and you can never have to many copies, but then you can't restore no copy.
Also, keep them organized.
