Best way to move site

- I am a new user so hopefully this question makes sense. I have a web site up and running on Bluehost but I wanted to try converting to Joomla with a Rockettheme template. I set up a sub directory " www.mysite.com/joomlatemplate/ " for the purpose of creating the site and testing it. Everything is ok and I am happy, but I have one issue. What is the best way to replace the old site with the new one? Move files/ move index.html and change config files. Would there be a downside to simply pointing to " www.mysite.com/joomlatemplate/ " as the root of my new site and leaving the files where they are since it is working OK?
