How to post articles on site...

Hello,
I've finally got the site up...What I've done was to modified the template contents...I tried to create a new article & post it, but don't know where it went...
Could somebody show me a detailed method on how to post new contents/articles...for instance...certain articles I want to post on the Home page...others on other pages...How do I go about that? I don't quite understand all these ID's, etc...
Section manager, categorie manager, article manager, frontpage manager...what are their relations to the articles?
Here's a more detailed question, when I go to the article manager to create a new one, I see these stuff, what are their relations to the articles:
Title Published No Yes
Alias Front Page No Yes
Section Category

I'm using Joomla 1.5. I created a sample article, put in a particular section & category...but don't see it anywhere at all!!!
