    • I am currently using OpenSEF and am wanting to switch to sh404SEF, but I am not sure how to do this properly. Do I intall this component as I would any other component? Do I need to uninstall OpenSEF first? How to I confugure sh404SEF properly? I am really need to get this figured out. Any help would be helpful.

      Thank you in advance,

    • Careful. Depends on how old your site is and how many links are indexed. Two different SEF programs may create different URL's depending on configuration. If they aren't exactly the same all the links already indexed in the search engines could give you 404 errors and frustrate your users.

      I can't remember which one goes which way, but there was a migration utility from one to the other. You might give extensions.joomla.org a shot and see if you can find it.

      SEF URL's are a touchy thing. Once a site is set up and many links indexed, best to not make changes unless it's an absolute necessity or your site is small enough to manually manually recreate all the links.

    • I just started building the site. I have still got the site offline. I just really do not like working with OpenSEF there is no support. I have heard a lot of good things about sh404SEF so I thought that I need to swtich before I put my site online so that it does not mess anything up in the search engines. I just don't know how to switch.

    • If you're not live, just uninstall the old component and reinstall the new one. I don't know if it leaves anything behind, hopefully it wont. I've used both and settled on sh404sef for the same reason, it's supported. (and it works)

      Just keep in mind what I mentioned. Since it's a new site I'd experiment with it to make sure you have the settings exactly the way you want them. After your site goes live, you really don't want to make any changes.

    • sh404sef worked right away for me. I've not built up any search engine results (too soon for that), but the install was easy and the product worked right away. I've used OpenSEF in the past, but it never was a good experience for me. sh404sef is another story. It's designed very well. I'm pleased!

    • I wouldn't know the exact answer on that, but it seems to me, that this might create a conflict. Maybe someone can bring clarity to the issue. Wish I could help more!

    • I thought that I had it installed properly but it has do something crazy to my template. After installing sh404sef I previewed my site and I have all kinds of errors running all over my site and my template is all out of wack. Have you ever had this problem?

      The warning is the following:
      Warning: preg_replace() [function.preg-replace]: Unknown modifier '{' in /home/bldear/public_html/administrator/components/com_sef/sh404sef.class.php on line 1434
